support for wounded veterans

The Wounded Warrior ProjectTM has concluded that as a result of the current Global War on Terror, the US Veterans Affairs (VA) Healthcare system now finds itself inundated with young service members who have lost limbs or mobility in the war and are looking to the VA for their long-term health care and prosthetic and assistive devices needs. This new reality means that the VA must quickly begin reemphasizing the needs of a younger and more active amputee patient population and must realign their prosthetics program to best serve this growing population.

While the military is doing its part to enable these soldiers and equip them to perform the most basic life functions, there remains a significant level of fragmentation within the medical system.  This has led to a disproportionate amount of care beyond post-rehabilitation programs for wounded soldiers.  Due to disparate and limited resources beyond the VA, there is now a large gap in the medical care network between enabling these basic functions and programs that promote the overall health and quality of life for a previously active soldier.

The needs of recently wounded warriors are special.  These soldiers were in top physical and mental condition prior to suffering their injuries.  The Scott Rigsby Foundation, with the help of its sponsors and partners, seeks to fill these gaps and enable wounded warriors to live the healthy and active lifestyles that they expected to prior to losing their limbs or mobility in support of our nation.

ALLIANCE RIDE

The Scott Rigsby Foundation and its primary sponsor, Jackson Healthcare have teamed up for the inaugural, annual Alliance Ride, a 23 and 56-mile cycling event, with the desire to become the biggest fundraising celebration of our wounded warriors in Georgia!

The event will raise funds for the Scott Rigsby Foundation to support our U.S. wounded soldiers as they rehabilitate from injuries received in Iraq and Afghanistan.  The 2010 event will provide a grant for the first-ever Georgia-based Wounded Warrior outdoor fitness camp and provide resources for advancing Prosthetic and Orthotics research.

The Alpharetta cycling event will take place on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 7:30am.  The cycling route begins at Jackson Healthcare's corporate headquarters, 2655 Northwinds Parkway, Alpharetta, GA 30009 and follows a police-managed course through the city of Alpharetta.
